The Craic Guide: Dublin's Best Pubs for Pints & Live Music

The Dublin pub is an institution.
It's where stories are told and songs are sung.
Here's where to find the most authentic experience.

You can't come to Dublin and not go to a proper pub.
We're talking about places with history, character, and a good chance of a spontaneous music session breaking out.
This is where you find the real 'craic'.

The Essential Pub List

1. The Cobblestone

The Vibe: A bit of a walk from the center, but this Smithfield pub is the real deal. It describes itself as "a drinking pub with a music problem." Trad music sessions happen here every night of the week. Unmissable.

2. O'Donoghue's Bar

The Vibe: Legendary for its connection to The Dubliners. This place near St. Stephen's Green is steeped in music history. It gets packed, but the atmosphere during a live session is electric. A proper Dublin experience.

3. The Brazen Head

The Vibe: Claims to be Dublin's oldest pub, dating back to 1198. It's touristy, but for good reason. The historic courtyard and multiple rooms are full of character, and they have live music every night.

4. Devitt's Pub

The Vibe: A fantastic, less tourist-mobbed pub on Camden Street. It has a great local feel, a perfect pint of Guinness, and an upstairs music venue that hosts trad sessions and other gigs.

5. The Palace Bar

The Vibe: A beautiful, preserved Victorian pub just off Temple Bar (but a world away in atmosphere). It's a famous old literary haunt with a snug and a great whiskey selection. A great spot for a conversation.

Finding a fair session.

The Cobblestone is the goal, but your mate is staying south side and it's a long way to go.
