Late-Night Midway Meetups in Hamburg

For when the night is still young, even if the U-Bahn isn't.

The 1 AM Problem

The U-Bahn and S-Bahn are running a limited service, or have stopped completely.

You want one more drink, but where can you go that doesn't mean a €50 taxi ride home for one of you?

The solution: Meet in a zone that's a hub for night buses and has a 24/7 vibe.

1. The Reeperbahn/St. Pauli

The undisputed king of late night. Meet at S-Bahn Reeperbahn or U-Bahn St. Pauli.

  • The vibe: Energetic, gritty, and always awake. From dive bars to big clubs, something is always open.
  • Why it's a great midway: This area is the central hub for many night bus lines. It's also centrally located between the west (Altona) and the city center.
  • Late-night snack potential: Legendary. Countless options for a currywurst or burger.

2. Sternschanze

A slightly more relaxed, but still very active alternative.

  • The vibe: Cool, alternative, and full of bars that stay open very late, especially on weekends. Less touristy than the Reeperbahn.
  • Why it's a great midway: The Sternschanze station is a key crossing point for night buses and the (less frequent) late-night S-Bahn services.
  • Best for: A final craft beer or cocktail with friends.

3. The Hansaplatz Area (St. Georg)

Right behind the Hauptbahnhof.

  • The vibe: A bit rough around the edges, but authentic and home to some classic, old-school bars that are open all hours.
  • Why it's a great midway: You can't beat the Hauptbahnhof for transport connections. If a night bus goes your way, it probably starts or stops here.
  • Best for: A no-frills, last-ditch beer when everything else is closed.

Pro-Tip: Know Your Night Bus!

Before you pick a spot, quickly check the HVV app for your respective night bus routes (the lines starting with a 600 number). Finding a bar that's a short walk from both your lines is the key to a stress-free journey home.

Don't let the commute kill the vibe.

Even after midnight, midway@ can help you find a spot that's a fair trip home for everyone.
