Lisbon: Alfama Hills vs. Baixa Flats - Where's the Fairest Meetup?
Stop the debate. Start the hangout. Here's how to find a spot that's fair for everyone.

Lisbon is a city of stunning views and seven hills. And while those hills look great on a postcard, they can be a real challenge when planning a meetup.
One person's in historic Alfama, navigating narrow, steep cobblestone streets. The other is in the flat, grid-like Baixa district. Where do you meet?
The answer isn't always "somewhere in the middle."
The Alfama Problem: Charm vs. Climb
Meeting in Alfama means someone's getting a serious leg workout. The charm is undeniable, but the climb is real. It's not exactly a "quick and easy" journey.

Plus, the transport options are limited. The famous Tram 28 is more of a tourist experience than efficient transport.
The Baixa Advantage: Flat & Connected
Baixa, rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake, is the opposite. It's flat, organized, and a major transport hub. Rossio and Baixa-Chiado stations connect you to everywhere.
It's easy to get to, but does it feel... fair? The person from Alfama has a much tougher journey down (and back up).
Finding the True Midway: Think Time, Not Distance
The geographical middle might point to Chiado, which is still a hill. A fairer way is to calculate based on travel time and effort.

Consider meeting points along the green metro line, like Martim Moniz. It's at the base of the hill, making it accessible for the person in Alfama without forcing the Baixa friend to hike.
Praça da Figueira is another great option—central, flat, and full of cafés.
