Tokyo is a photographer's dream. Every corner has something beautiful, weird, or wonderful. We've rounded up some of the most iconic and aesthetic spots that also happen to be great places to hang out.
1. Shibuya Sky
Okay, this one isn't free, but the 360-degree, open-air view from the rooftop is absolutely worth it. The glass corners and escalators leading up are pure sci-fi. Go for sunset or at night for the best shots.
2. Gotokuji Temple (The Cat Temple)
A small, quiet temple in Setagaya that is filled with thousands of 'maneki-neko' (beckoning cat) statues. It's quirky, adorable, and makes for a totally unique photo op.
3. teamLab Borderless/Planets
The definition of an immersive art experience. Every room is a mind-blowing, interactive light installation. You can't take a bad photo in here. Book tickets way in advance.
4. Omoide Yokocho, Shinjuku
Also known as "Piss Alley" or "Memory Lane," this network of tiny, smoky yakitori joints is pure atmosphere. At night, the lanterns and steam create a cinematic, Blade Runner-esque vibe.
5. Takeshita Street, Harajuku
The epicenter of 'kawaii' (cute) culture. The street is packed with colorful crepe stands, rainbow cotton candy, and wild fashion. It's a sensory overload in the best way possible.
6. Nezu Shrine
Want those Fushimi Inari-style photos without going to Kyoto? Nezu Shrine has a beautiful path of smaller red torii gates that's perfect for a photoshoot, and it's far less crowded.
7. Shirohige's Cream Puff Factory
The only bakery officially licensed to make Totoro-shaped cream puffs. They are almost too cute to eat. The cafe itself is adorable and located in a quiet residential area.
