The Student Struggle
You're at LMU. Your friend is at the TUM campus in Garching.
Finding a place to meet that doesn't cost a fortune or a 1-hour U-Bahn ride feels impossible.
Solution: Target the student-friendly zones that are also midway points.
1. The University Quarter (Maxvorstadt)
The obvious, but correct, choice. Meet around Universität or Theresienstraße.
- The spots: Packed with affordable cafes, cheap döner shops, and student bars.
- Why it's a great midway: It's literally between LMU's main campus and the U-Bahn to TUM. The U3/U6 line is your best friend here.
- The vibe: Energetic, intellectual, and full of people your own age.
- Top tip: Check out the Mensa (university canteen) for the cheapest coffee you'll find.
2. A Picnic in the Englischer Garten
Enter from Universität and find a spot.
- The spot: Free, spacious, and perfect for big groups.
- Why it's a great midway: Directly accessible for LMU students, and a straight shot on the U6 for TUM students from Garching.
- The cost: As cheap as the snacks you bring from home.
3. Türkenstraße for Cafe Hopping
Parallel to the main drag in Maxvorstadt.
- The spots: Lined with cool, independent cafes that are slightly less crowded than the main university area.
- Why it's a great midway: Still in the university quarter, so it's a fair travel compromise for most students.
- Look for: Cafes with student discounts or loyalty cards.
4. Olympiapark for Sports and Chilling
Take the U3 to Olympiazentrum.
- The spot: Climb the hill for amazing views, watch people row on the lake, or just find a patch of grass.
- Why it's a great midway: A fantastic option if one person lives in the north (e.g., a student dorm in the Olympic Village) and another in the city center.
- Vibe: Sporty, open, and great for an active study break.
