Forget trendy cocktail bars for a minute.
To truly understand Prague, you need to visit a real, old-school pub.
Communal tables, hearty food, and some of the best beer on earth.
The Historic Pub Crawl
1. U Zlatého Tygra (The Golden Tiger)
The Vibe: The most famous pub in Prague. This is where Czech president Václav Havel took Bill Clinton for a beer. It's a proper, no-frills beer hall with legendary Pilsner Urquell. Be prepared to share a table.
2. U Medvidku (At the Little Bears)
The Vibe: A Prague institution since 1466. It's a huge place with a restaurant, a beer garden, and its own microbrewery that brews the super-strong X-Beer 33. A must-visit for any beer lover.
3. Lokál Dlouhááá
The Vibe: Not ancient, but it perfectly recreates the atmosphere of a communist-era beer hall. Long, loud, and fun. They take their beer seriously, serving perfectly poured Pilsner from tanks. The food is classic Czech comfort food.
4. Klášterní pivovar Strahov (Strahov Monastery Brewery)
The Vibe: Drinking beer brewed by monks since the 13th century. Located up the hill at Prague Castle, the brewery has a beautiful courtyard and serves fantastic, unfiltered beers and hearty food. A great reward after a long walk.
5. U Fleků
The Vibe: Touristy? Yes. But also a must-see. It's a massive, multi-room beer hall that has been brewing its own dark lager for over 500 years. There's often an accordion player. It's an experience.
